ALTO TRAIL – More than just running

04.06.2026

Experience the mountains together, find your own rhythm and approach exercise more mindfully: with ALTO, we are launching a new community initiative in collaboration with mountain runner and ski mountaineer Martin Anthamatten, focusing on trail running, recovery and alpine culture.

From this summer, Zermatt will become a meeting place for anyone who wants to discover the mountains on foot – regardless of experience or pace. The focus is not on performance and pressure, but on flow, technique, experiencing nature and genuine community. Participation is free of charge.

ALTO is more than just a new running format. Together with our co-creators, we are building a community that takes a holistic approach to trail running – from exercise and recovery to mindful nutrition and a genuine connection with nature.

Matterhorn Ultraks – Trail running as a shared experience

At the ALTO Club, we work towards a common goal. Not through pressure, but through motivation, sharing ideas and a sense of community. So that many of us might even end up lining up together at the start of the Matterhorn Ultraks 2026.

For the Matterhorn Ultraks team, Zermatt is one of the most exciting trail running destinations in the world. The combination of spectacular alpine landscapes, varied trails and the unique atmosphere surrounding the Matterhorn has been attracting an international trail running community for years.

The focus is no longer solely on sporting performance. Today, trail running thrives on shared experiences, mutual support and interaction – regardless of pace or level of experience. It is precisely this attitude that also defines ALTO.

PEAQ Hydration – Mindful Hydration for the Mountains

We share PEAQ Hydration’s conviction that performance begins with mindfulness. Their ‘Fuel with intention’ approach means giving the body exactly what it needs at any given moment – not by chance, but deliberately.

Mindful hydration plays a crucial role, particularly in alpine environments. Altitude, dry air, intense sunlight and prolonged exertion often place greater demands on the body than one immediately realises. Even mild dehydration can affect concentration, endurance and recovery.

For us, this approach fits perfectly with ALTO: mindful movement, smart energy management and a sustainable approach to performance – without unnecessary pressure to perform.

Odlo – Lightweight performance for the trail

Trail running apparel is constantly evolving. Today, runners expect layers that are not only functional, but also versatile, lightweight and designed to look as good as they feel. And this is exactly where Odlo comes in.

In alpine terrain, layers must withstand a wide variety of conditions: sun, rain, wind, temperature fluctuations and long days on the trail, while still needing to feel light and uncomplicated.

What we particularly like with Odlo’s trail running collection is that it is inspired by the Alps, combining protection and freedom of movement. It embodies exactly the feeling we want to convey with ALTO - feeling free, present and connected to nature when outdoors.

KEEN – Recovery as part of performance

At ALTO, it’s not just about exercise, but also about conscious recovery. Together with KEEN, we want to show that recovery is just as important today as the training itself.

After all, progress isn’t just made during exercise, but above all during moments of recovery. Heat, cold and breathwork help to regulate the nervous system, cope better with stress and remain resilient in the long term.

We find KEEN’s approach particularly exciting: viewing recovery not as a passive break, but as an active practice. Conscious recovery thus becomes an integral part of sustainable performance – physically, mentally and emotionally.

More than just a running club

With ALTO, we want to set a new rhythm for summer in Zermatt. A place where people can run together, chat, recharge their batteries and experience the mountains more fully.

ALTO Trail Running Retreat

A special highlight this summer is the first ALTO Trail Running Retreat, taking place from 26–28 June 2026 at the CERVO Mountain Resort.

Three days packed with exercise, inspiration and relaxation – featuring guided runs, trail labs, breathwork, recovery sessions, keynote talks and special CERVO moments amidst the Zermatt mountains.

We look forward to embarking on this journey together with our community and our co-creators – and to creating a place where people can experience the mountains more consciously, find new energy and forge genuine connections.

See you soon on the trail.
