Carmen, what brought you to CERVO?
I grew up in the Bernese Oberland and completed my education there. Although I feel very comfortable and at home there, it was clear to me that I needed a change of scenery.

A winter season had been on my to-do list for a long time. Various work colleagues have raved about Zermatt to me and one of my best friends worked in Zermatt for a season last year.

When I visited my friend, we had brunch at CERVO.

I was fascinated by the CERVO concept right from the start. The fact that it is not a classic 5-star hotel made the CERVO immediately interesting for me. And since sustainability is an important topic for me personally, it was quickly clear that I would like to work at CERVO for a winter season.

How do you like it here with us?
Zermatt and CERVO have so much to offer. There are exciting events and workshops every day, so it certainly won't be boring. The guest segment is very international and English is spoken a lot. This is optimal preparation for me. 

#wearecervo is very important. This means that various events are also organised for the staff (eating raclette together, snowshoeing, yoga,...). Anyone who has an idea or talent of their own is allowed to contribute. New ideas are put into practice whenever possible. So you also meet outside of work and grow closer together.

What does your future path look like?
After my three competitions in the next two years (AICR World's Best Receptionist Doha February 2023, Euroskills Gdańsk September 2023 and the Worldskills Lyon September 2024), my plans are very open. I certainly want to deepen and broaden my knowledge of foreign languages. I can imagine working abroad very well. I would like to combine work and travel. However, I don't have a fixed plan yet. 

All in all, I am open to new things and look forward to everything that comes my way.

Carmen's next competition is coming up soon. The AICR, The International Association of Front Office Managers, will crown the World's Best Receptionist on 28 February 2023, with the 17 national champions competing in the international final for the "David Campbell Trophy". The AICR World's Best Receptionist competition aims to find rising stars in the field of service excellence - regardless of hotel category and location, regardless of hotel company or hotel management school, anyone can become part of the AICR and take part.
