The CERVO Mountain Resort is giving its in-house fragrance and spa range a new visual identity. ‘Mystic Journey’ has now been redesigned by Zurich-based designer and artist Simone Züger, transforming the Zermatt hotel’s olfactory identity into a curated design object.
‘Mystic Journey’ is more than just a name. It symbolises what the CERVO Mountain Resort stands for and tells a story of Alpine roots meeting the spirit of Marrakech; of the cool magic of the Matterhorn and the scent of warm woods and musk. And it explores the question of how a magical place like Zermatt can not only be experienced, but also taken home with you.
From now on, “Mystic Journey” bears the creative signature of Zurich-based designer and artist Simone Züger. The experienced designer plays with typography and minimalist packaging, using white space as a deliberate design choice and textured paper as a tactile reference to the rugged mountain faces. The clear, minimalist design reflects the focus on a few, high-quality ingredients. The characteristic illustrations of a female body and a male head represent the sensuality with which the designer likes to play in her work. This transforms the products into exhibition pieces, gifts and objects of desire.
“A product must be compelling both inside and out,” says Simone Züger. For her, the essence is revealed not only in the content, but equally in the design. “I’m interested in the tension between minimalism and emotion. Mystic Journey thrives on precisely that.” For her, design is an expression of an attitude. A principle that aligns perfectly with CERVO’s self-image.
Developed in 2020 in collaboration with the Florentine master perfumer Sileno Cheloni, the CERVO signature fragrance combines cedarwood, patchouli, Cambodian oud and musk with a connection to Alpine nature and spicy, aromatic notes. In keeping with the resort’s commitment to anchoring value creation as regionally as possible, the fragrance products are manufactured locally in Visp, Valais.
‘Mystic Journey’ is complemented by the spa cosmetics line of the same name, featuring alpine mountain herbs and apricot as key ingredients – another nod to Valais. Produced in a small-scale facility in Mallorca, the products feature clearly defined, minimalist formulations. From the Antioxidant Serum and moisturisers to the Rejuvenating Moisturiser and Hyaluronic Serum, the collection is equally impressive at the resort’s Ātman Mountain Spa and in the comfort of one’s own home.
At a time when hotels are increasingly becoming curated platforms, the CERVO consciously positions itself at the intersection of hospitality, design and sustainability. Since opening in 2009, the resort has seen itself as a place where awareness, aesthetics and a certain way of life are inextricably linked. The resort covers 99 per cent of its energy requirements through geothermal energy and heat recovery. Regional partnerships shape the cuisine and supply chains. ‘Mystic Journey’ adds another dimension to this ethos: local design as a cultural extension of the brand.
